Everything you need to know

You can link the license plate registered on the Telepass device to the Milan Area C service: Enter and exit automatically even if you don't have the device with you. Here you can find all the information to activate the service on the Telepass or Telepass Pay X App and to check and change a license plate authorized by the City of Milan.

General Information

The Telepass ZTL service allows you to pay for access to Limited Traffic Zones in cities where the service is active directly through your Telepass account, at no additional cost and without needing to have a Telepass device in your vehicle, thanks to the reading of your license plate, which is registered for the service.

To activate the service, download the Telepass app and follow the step-by-step instructions.

If there is a change to a license plate (for example, a “license plate change” or “transferring the license plate from one device to another under the same contract”) that was previously enabled for the service, you must reactivate the service on the new license plate.

There are no additional costs for this service.

ATM Milan (Area C)

Milan's Area C is in effect Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Always refer to the guidelines provided by the City of Milan: Area C - City of Milan.

You can view the current rules for entering Milan's Area C on the website: AreaC, MyAreaC, purchase and activate your entry ticket within 24 hours of driving through the zone.

If the service shows as “can be activated” or “active” on a hybrid vehicle, it means that ATM has not recognized the vehicle. In this case, please contact MTA.UfficioAreaC@comune.milano.it

If you change your license plate number, you’ll need to reactivate the Area C service for the new plate. You can do this in three different ways:

  • from your app → in the “Vehicles” section, tap “View details” for the license plate you want to activate, go to “Accesses,” and activate the service under the corresponding entry
  • from the Reserved Area of the website → click on the left-hand menu “Telepass Device” > “Services” > “Area C” and select “Activate” for the correct license plate.
  • visit the Telepass Store in Milan or Turin.

After submitting your request, you will receive a first notification regarding the deactivation of the old license plate and a second one regarding the activation of the new one.

When you activate the service, your license plate will be assigned a unique PIN code, which you must enter on the dedicated website to manage access to Milan's Area C.

Before activating Area C Milan with Telepass, you must cancel your payment through the City of Milan’s MyAreaC portal. For more information, go to the “PIN Cancellation” section: Area C: Registration - City of Milan

The Milan Area C service becomes active at midnight on the day following your activation request on the website or in the app.

If you selected the option to be charged retroactively for trips, activation takes effect on the same day you submit your request.

If your license plate is exempt from the Milan Area C fee, you do not need to activate the service in the app. If the service is active, go to the app or the Reserved Area to deactivate it:

  • From your app → in the “Vehicles” section, tap “View details” for the license plate you want to deactivate, go to “Accesses,” and deactivate it under the corresponding entry
  • From the Reserved Area on the website → click on the “Telepass Device” contract > Services > Area C and select “Deactivate” for the correct license plate

If your license plate is exempt from payment but is not recognized by the City of Milan, it will appear as a paying vehicle and you will receive charges from the City of Milan in the app. For further information, please contact: MTA.UfficioAreaC@comune.milano.it

The amount charged for the Area C service is not subject to VAT. Therefore, Telepass generates an accounting document (not a tax document) in the name and on behalf of the City of Milan, which serves as valid proof of actual use of access to Area C in Milan.

You can find your Area C Milan transactions in the “Summary” section (first icon at the bottom left of the app) > “Transactions.” In the same section, you can also create an expense report.
