In response to the latest news, Telepass S.p.A. clarifies below how the Free Flow payment system by Pedemontana Lombarda works.
WHAT IS FREE FLOW AND WHERE IT APPLIES
The Free Flow toll collection service located on the A-36 highway (also known as Pedemontana Lombarda highway) is a toll booth and gate barrier free system. The passage of the vehicle is detected by electronic devices placed along the route which identify the toll amount and the customer to be charged using a reading of the on-board device and/or the vehicle number plate.
WHAT IS THE TELEPASS DEVICE INTERACTION
The Telepass device is one of the payment methods accepted by Pedemontana Lombarda highway.
REASONS WHY THE PAYMENT MIGHT NOT BE DETECTED
The Telepass device has a highly precise detection method (it reaches a 99.87% precision with the highway toll booths). The Free Flow system might have by nature a lower detecting precision, therefore in the case of high speed or change of lane it might not detect the device.
Whenever the infrastracture doesn't detect the device, for the reasons mentioned, the highway managing company will activate the transit recognition with the reading of the number plate and will debit the toll amount to the Telepass account. In order for this to work, the number plate needs to be correctly matched to the Telepass device and the customer has to consent to the Pedemontana Lombarda service charge on the channels made availabe by Telepass S.p.A., as Telepass App, the Telepass website Customer Secure Area, "Punto Blu".
If the above conditions are not met, a toll payment reminder will be issued with an additional cost of euro 3.50.
HOW TO RESOLVE THE MATTER
We invite the Telepass customers to verify the Pedemontana Lombarda service activation on their account and keep updated the number plates associated with the devices.
Whenever the number plates are not updated or the service is not active, you can activate it using the Telepass App or the other channels mentioned above.
Also, Telepass is working with Pedemontana Lombarda to avoid the charge of the addditional cost whenever a customer receives a payment reminder.
