Alsace: A New Milestone in the Evolution of European Tolling

9 October 2026
Cover News

Alsace is entering a new phase in the evolution of European tolling by adopting a satellite-based charging model, marking an important step towards a more digital and connected mobility ecosystem.

From 1 January 2027, the new R-PASS tolling scheme will apply to commercial vehicles and heavy goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes travelling on the A35, A36, D502 and D504 road sections. The toll amount will be calculated based on the distance travelled on the tolled network, the vehicle's Gross Combination Weight Rating (PTRA), and its Euro emissions class.

This change represents a significant transformation for the transport and professional mobility sectors, which will need to adapt to new toll collection and management methods. In a rapidly evolving landscape, the ability to anticipate change and adopt advanced technological solutions is becoming a strategic factor in ensuring operational efficiency and service continuity.

Telepass has always supported customers and partners in navigating the evolution of European tolling systems, offering solutions designed to meet the needs of an increasingly integrated market.

In this context of continuous innovation, France has already started the progressive phase-out of 2G technology. Thanks to its satellite-based 4G solution, Telepass is ready to support the new R-PASS system in Alsace, but also to anticipate future technology upgrade requirements for fleets and enabling a smoother transition towards increasingly digital and connected mobility standards.

With the introduction of R-PASS Alsace scheduled for January 2027, many companies are already switching to solutions that can ensure operational continuity across the new toll network. Thanks to its satellite-based technology and compatibility with the future Alsace tolling system, the K1 Telepass SAT is the perfect solution for fleets to prepare in advance for the transition, supporting a smoother and more efficient management of international mobility.
