How and where to pay vehicle tax

Throughout the country, you can find various physical locations to pay the vehicle tax for your car or motorcycle: post offices, ACI offices, affiliated Sisal or Lottomatica tobacco shops, and banks. Even more practical and easy is paying the vehicle tax online! In the app, you can do it like this: select your vehicle's license plate, verify the cost, pay, and download the payment receipt.

From today, you can also pay the vehicle tax for license plates not registered in the app.

Who is exempt from paying the vehicle tax? Those who own a car over 30 years old and beneficiaries of Law 104. With an electric car, the tax is reduced to 75% (in Lombardy and Piedmont you don't pay anything).

How to calculate vehicle tax

Online you can calculate the cost of your car and motorcycle tax quickly and securely, for example on the ACI website or the Revenue Agency website.
The data you need are: your region of residence, license plate number, kW or HP, and the environmental class of your vehicle. If you only have the data in HP but not in kW (or vice versa), read the guide for converting kW to HP and vice versa.
The figures range from €3/kW for Euro 0 vehicles to €2.58/kW for Euro 4, 5 and 6 vehicles up to 100 kW of power, but costs vary from region to region!

Vehicle Tax Due

The vehicle tax must be paid every year, but the vehicle tax deadline varies from region to region. It's usually set within the month following the registration of your car (e.g., If your vehicle was registered in November, you'll need to pay the tax by the end of December). You can verify that you've paid the vehicle tax on the website of the Revenue Agency or ACI.
