The A19 Palermo-Catania is part of the European roads E25 in the Palermo-Buonfornello section and E932 in the Buonfornello-Catania section.

History

The Palermo-Catania highway was opened to traffic in two phases. In 1970, the Palermo-Buonfornello and Motta Sant'Anastasia-Catania sections were inaugurated, while in 1975 the infrastructure was completed with the opening of the central section.

Built and managed by ANAS, it has undergone few modifications over the years, including the addition of the Dittaino junction in 2005 and the Irosa junction in 2014.

In 2010, the final section near Catania was decommissioned to allow for a seamless connection between the A19 and the new Catania urban expressway.

The A19 does not have any additional official designation.

Features

The A19 Palermo Catania Highway is 191.6 kilometers long in total and originates from the Villabate junction, where a short motorway link connects it to the Palermo ring road (Viale della Regione Siciliana).
