Blue lines indicate paid parking areas on the street, established to manage traffic and promote vehicle rotation in the most frequented areas of the urban territory.
In Genoa, parking regulations are set by the Municipality of Genoa, but the entire operational management of the service is entrusted to the company Genova Parcheggi S.p.A.
In Genoa, it is possible to pay for parking on blue lines through traditional and digital methods.
The main method is payment through parking meters installed in regulated parking areas.
Parking meters allow you to:
The paper ticket (if printed and required by the parking meter) must be displayed clearly on the vehicle's dashboard.
In enabled areas, you can also pay for parking through the Telepass app.
With the app you can:
Blue stripes in Genoa are distributed mainly in central areas and zones with higher traffic, where parking demand is highest. The Municipality of Genoa distinguishes three main tariff bands for the Blue Area to discourage long-term parking in key central locations.
In general, Band 1 corresponds to the most central areas, Band 2 covers semi-central urban areas, while Band 3 covers more peripheral zones or areas with less congestion.
Zone | Main streets / areas | Indicative urban area | Characteristics |
|---|---|---|---|
Zone 1 | Via XX Settembre, Piazza della Vittoria, Via Fieschi, Piazza Dante, Via Corsica, Via San Vincenzo | City center and commercial district | Very high turnover, greater parking demand pressure |
Zone 2 | Corso Buenos Aires, Corso Torino, Via Cantore, Via Torti, Corso De Stefanis, Via Reti | Semi-central and nearby residential areas | High residential density, balance between residents and visitors |
Paid parking spaces are delimited by blue horizontal road markings. The vertical signage present on the space always prevails to understand which time band you are in.
The cost of parking varies based on the tariff band defined by the Municipality. Genoa applies a progressive system in central areas: the longer you stay, the more you pay per hour.
Zone | Main streets / areas | Hourly rate |
|---|---|---|
Zone 1 | Via XX Settembre, Piazza della Vittoria, Via Fieschi, Piazza Dante, Via Corsica, Via San Vincenzo | 1st hour: €1.30, 2nd hour: €1.70. From the 3rd hour: €2.00 |
Zone 2 | Corso Buenos Aires, Corso Torino, Via Cantore, Via Torti, Corso De Stefanis, Via Reti | 1st hour: €1.10, 2nd hour: €1.40. From the 3rd hour: €1.50 |
Zone 3 | Via Gianelli (Nervi), Via Sestri, Via Merano, Via G. d'Annunzio | €1.00 / fixed hourly rate |
To facilitate short stops, in most Genoa parking spaces, the tariff is divided based on actual parking time (with minimum increments of €0.05 starting from the second hour, or 30-minute intervals).
Payment times depend on the area and type of parking.
The city system is mainly divided into two macro-areas: the Blu Area (for mixed parking and residents) and the Isole Azzurre (areas with very high commercial or tourist turnover).
Zone | Main streets / areas | Main hours |
|---|---|---|
Standard areas (Blue Area) | Via XX Settembre, Piazza della Vittoria, Corso Buenos Aires, Via Cantore | Mon–Sat 08:00–20:00 Free on Sundays and public holidays |
Tourist areas (Blue Islands) | Corso Italia, Via Aurora (Boccadasse), Piazza Rossetti, Via Gianelli (seaside) | Mon–Sun 08:00–20:00 or later (Often paid parking also on public holidays) |
In the Municipality of Genova, some exemptions from parking payment are provided.
Vehicles equipped with a valid disabled badge (CUDE) can park free of charge on all blue lines in the Municipality of Genova, provided that the yellow spaces specifically reserved for them are already occupied or unavailable.
The exemption from payment is total and automatic for vehicles operating for public safety and health.
Exempt vehicles include:
The Municipality of Genoa facilitates parking for pregnant women and for parents with small children. For these categories, dedicated parking spaces (pink stripes) are provided, which can be used free of charge, upon request of the appropriate permit issued by the Municipality.
On regular blue stripes, parking remains paid.
In Genoa, excellent incentives are planned for low-impact environmental cars, but pay attention to residency rules!
The cost follows a progressive system based on the tier. In Tier 1 the rate starts at €1.30 for the first hour and reaches €2.00 from the third hour onwards. In Tier 2 it starts at €1.10 per hour, while Tier 3 has a fixed cost of €1.00 per hour. Rates can be prorated.

Parking is paid through the parking meters available on-site or conveniently through the Telepass app, which allows you to start and stop your parking session from your phone, paying only for the actual minutes used.
In most of the city (Blue Area), yes, parking is free on Sundays and public holidays. However, in seaside/tourist areas (Summer Azure Islands), parking may remain paid. Always check the road signs.
Some categories are exempt from paying for blue zones in Caserta, such as people with disabilities with CUDE badge, emergency vehicles and law enforcement. The Municipality may provide additional benefits for specific categories, according to current regulations.
100% electric and hybrid vehicles do not pay for parking only if they belong to residents (or companies based) in the Municipality of Genoa, after registration with Genova Parcheggi. For non-residents, payment is required, but with a 50% discount by requesting the appropriate permit online.
