All solutions in a single guide
Getting information about where to park in Rome and what are the best solutions for leaving your car parked in Italy's capital is essential when driving to one of the largest metropolises in Europe, as well as one of the world's major tourist destinations.
The vast urban area of Rome and its frequently congested road network present drivers with a series of challenges. Whether you're a resident, worker, or visitor, finding parking in the city can be very complex: therefore, you must always be well-informed about how mobility works, the organization of parking lots, and parking regulations.
In particular, you need to pay attention to the ZTL Fascia Verde (Green Belt Limited Traffic Zone), active 24 hours from Monday to Saturday (excluding Sundays and holidays) which prohibits circulation of the most polluting vehicles.
In the territory of Rome Capital, there are different types of parking. Parking areas can be grouped into three main categories: on-street parking, structured parking (or enclosed and accessible via barrier) and interchange parking.
On-street parking is managed by ATAC. Spaces where you can leave your car are marked by blue lines, while free or limited-time parking spaces are marked by white lines.
Structured parking or barrier-controlled parking can be underground or surface, attended or unattended, public or private. Payment is generally hourly, with discounted daily tickets and the possibility of weekly or monthly subscriptions.
If you are a tourist staying in hotels or bed & breakfasts in Rome, make sure the accommodation you choose has reserved spaces for guests or agreements with parking facilities offering special rates.
If you are in Rome for just a day or a few hours, parking on blue lines might be the most suitable option. Always remember that the cost and parking rules may vary depending on the area, day, and time, so always check the nearest vertical signage where you leave your car. Especially if far from the center, it is advisable to ensure your parking spot is close to a public transport stop.
In Rome, blue lines are in effect from Monday to Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., while on Sundays and public holidays (except in some areas) they are free. General rates are:
Rates can be fractioned or discounted as follows:
You can pay at parking meters with coins or card (if enabled) or with the Telepass app.
Exempt from payment are residents with a permit (maximum 2 vehicles per person), domiciliaries living outside the Metropolitan City of Rome, and artisans registered in the Provincial Craft Register, always upon request of a permit at municipal offices. Parking is also free for electric and hybrid vehicles (just enter the license plate number).
Parking on white lines is free, regulated with a parking disc for a maximum of 3 hours near main hospitals and in the city's paid zones, except for permit holders.
If you need longer-term parking in Rome or want to leave your car near train stations, airports, highway exits, hospitals, or other key points, structured or barrier-controlled parking meets your needs.
These parking areas are located around the center or near major infrastructures. They usually have variable hourly rates, are open 24 hours or almost, and offer daily discounts and weekly or monthly subscriptions.
Many of them have agreements with the Convenient Parking service, included in all Telepass offers. Parking in an agreed facility speeds up entry and exit procedures, as your device works exactly like on the highway: look for the pillars with the logo and take the reserved lane. Slow down near the barrier and proceed after hearing the device signal. You can monitor your parking and expenses through the Telepass app with quarterly billing.

A very convenient solution for moving around Rome is to leave your car in interchange parking areas. These are parking lots or structures located near main public transport lines: after parking, you can continue your journey by metro or bus, contributing to reducing emissions.
Interchange parking is located at metro stations A, B, and C, metropolitan railways, and urban and suburban bus termini. They may be automated or not, with different payment and exemption rules. Parking is free for Metrebus Card holders.

Parking in the center of Rome is complicated due to the Green Zone regulations, traffic, and limited spaces. One solution, albeit more expensive, is to use covered and attended parking facilities to leave your car safely.
One of the largest parking lots in the city is Villa Borghese, offering 1,800 spaces and open 24 hours every day. It is located outside the ZTL, a few steps from Piazza di Spagna, Via del Babuino, and Via Veneto, with rates starting from €2.60 per hour and a daily rate of €22.00.
Near Piazza San Pietro and the Vatican Museums, the Mercato Trionfale parking (address: Via Tunisi 80) offers 740 spaces starting from €1.50 per hour. The daily rate is €20.00, with weekly and monthly subscription options.
Other structured parking options in central Rome include Sant'Agata, Esquilino, Castro Pretorio, and Service Flaminio, with prices from €3.00 per hour and up.
Parking in Rome’s Trastevere area, rich in historical and artistic heritage and famous for its restaurants and nightlife, can be challenging. However, if you arrive by car, there are some options available.
Among the covered and attended garages, the main ones are Parcheggio Trastevere in Via dell'Arco de' Tolomei – within walking distance of the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, Tiber Island, and the Mouth of Truth – Garage Trastevere in Viale di Trastevere 280 (the main street of the neighborhood), and Trastevere Parking in Via dei Marescotti 6. Rates vary by facility, starting at €3.00 per hour.
Cheaper options are available slightly away from the central area. In Via delle Mura Portuensi, the ATAC parking offers daytime rates starting at €1.50 per hour, while nighttime hourly rates are €3.00. The parking lot at Rome Trastevere Station is free, but may be inaccessible due to ongoing works. Both areas are near FL1, FL3, FL5, bus, and tram stops.
EUR, the large southern Rome district with commercial, office, and residential areas, offers more parking opportunities due to its size and wide streets. A good option is to look for spots in side streets near main arteries, where free spaces are often available. Alternatively, you can use on-street blue lines or multi-level structures in the area.
Main structured parking in EUR includes Parcheggio Lago EUR and EUR Garage Garden, as well as the large Palazzo dello Sport parking, entirely free and near EUR Palasport metro station (Line B).
Nearby, you can also find interchange parking connected to metro Line B: Laurentina, Magliana, and Ostiense.
The Stadio Olimpico, home to Roma and Lazio football matches as well as Six Nations rugby, athletics competitions, and concerts, is unfortunately known for not having a large dedicated parking lot. The same applies to the Foro Italico complex, which hosts the Italian Open tennis tournament, swimming events, and various other events.
If you arrive by car, you will need to find secure and convenient parking nearby and then move on foot, by public transport, or using shared mobility, considering that roads may be closed to cars during events.
The closest areas for easy parking are Viale Tor di Quinto, Piazzale Clodio, and across the Tiber, Villaggio Olimpico and the Flaminio district, with on-street blue or white line parking available.
Major parking facilities in the area include Muoviamo Flaminio, Muoviamo Corso di Francia, Garage Fleming, Autorimessa Schiavi d'Abruzzo 2000, City Parking Vigna Clara, and Service Flaminio, all starting from €4.00 per hour.
If you need to park near Rome Termini, the city’s main train station and the largest in Italy, connected to metro Lines A and B, you will find parking on blue lines or in covered structures.
The closest is Rome Termini Stazione in Via Marsala 53, in the Piastra area, with 932 spaces and direct access to the platforms. Daytime parking costs €2.40 per hour, nighttime (1:00-5:00 a.m.) €2.00 per hour. Also on Via Marsala is King Parking.
On the opposite side of the station, Via Giolitti hosts ES Park Giolitti, bookable online, and Esquilino Parking, with 185 spaces. Rates vary, so consult their websites.
Other garages include Euro Parking on Via Napoli (inside the ZTL and therefore inaccessible to unauthorized vehicles from Monday to Friday 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.), Autorimessa Castro Pretorio, MuoviAmo Castro Pretorio, Garage Auto Bruzi, and Frank Parking in San Lorenzo.
Rome Tiburtina, the city’s other major station, is connected to metro Line B and has an ATAC interchange parking with 84 ground-level spaces, paid on weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. starting from €2.00 per hour, free for monthly or annual Metrebus subscribers.
Nearby are various private facilities with variable rates depending on location and additional services, starting at €3.00 per hour: Parcheggio Tiburtina, Garage Piazza Bologna, Garage Tiburtina-Lorenzo il Magnifico, Garage Tiburtina-Nomentana, Garage Bologna 2.
