Where to park in Bergamo?

All solutions in one guide

Knowing where to park in Bergamo and what are the best solutions for leaving your car is essential if you are traveling by car to the Lombard city.

Located just over 50 kilometers from Milan, Bergamo – divided into "Upper City" and "Lower City" – preserves an interesting historic center, with Venetian walls that are a UNESCO heritage site. It is crossed by the A4 motorway and served by Bergamo-Orio al Serio Airport, Italy's third busiest airport by number of passengers.

As in all major urban centers, whether you are a resident, commuter, or tourist, finding parking is not always easy and you need to be aware of how local mobility works, the parking system, and parking regulations.

Bergamo is equipped with a public transport network and also offers mobility sharing services. In any case, if you arrive by car, keep in mind a series of essential information to get around best.

Discover how and where to park in Bergamo comfortably and safely.

Parking in Bergamo: the two types of parking

In Bergamo there are several types of parking, which can be divided between on-street parking and structured parking. Almost all are well connected to the local public transport network, to facilitate interchange.

On-street parking is managed by ATB (Azienda Trasporti Bergamo) on behalf of the Municipality. Paid spaces are marked with blue lines.

Structured parking or barrier parking can be underground or surface level, attended or unattended, public or private. The rate is generally hourly, with discounts for daily tickets and weekly or monthly passes, and they are open all day.

If you are a tourist staying in a hotel or bed & breakfast, make sure the accommodation provides reserved spaces for guests or parking with special rates.

Parking on blue lines in Bergamo

If you are in Bergamo for just one day or a few hours, paid parking on blue lines may be the best solution. Remember that the cost and parking method may vary depending on the area, day and time, so always check the nearest traffic sign at the point where you leave your car.

Also, it is advisable to verify that, especially if far from the center, your parking location is a short distance from a public transport stop.

Blue lines in Bergamo are in effect every day, including holidays, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, unless otherwise indicated. Rates vary depending on the distance from the center and there is a maximum parking time to ensure parking space rotation:

  • Historic center: €2 per hour (maximum 2 hours parking);
  • Areas adjacent to the center: €1 per hour (maximum 3 hours parking).

In the outer areas, blue line parking is available at various rates:

  • €1.80 per hour (maximum 4 hours parking);
  • €1.50 per hour (maximum 5 hours parking);
  • €1 per hour (maximum 10 hours parking).

Residents of the Municipality of Bergamo can park for free provided they have the appropriate permit, but if you fall into this category, still pay attention to the traffic signs: there are blue line spaces where free parking for residents is not allowed.

If you drive an electric or hybrid car (with CO2 emissions of 50 g/km or less), you can park for free within the maximum time allowed and you must display both the annual permit issued by ATB and the parking disc indicating the start time of parking.

Structured parking in Bergamo: where they are

If you need longer parking in Bergamo, structured or barrier parking meets your needs. These parking facilities are located both in the center and near major infrastructure and key points in the city.

They have a generally variable hourly rate, are open 24 hours or almost, and offer discounts for daily parking and weekly and monthly passes.

Many are affiliated with the Telepass Parking service, included in all offers. Parking in an affiliated parking facility allows you to speed up entry and exit procedures, since your device will work exactly as on the motorway: to enter, look for the bollards with the logo and take the reserved lane. Slow down when you are near the barrier and pass after hearing the device signal. You can check parking and expenses from the Telepass app with charges to your account every three months.
