France: How does it work, and which toll booths/lanes should you use?
In France, the European System works on the entire French highway network, but it does not work in the Mont Blanc and Fréjus tunnels (alternative methods are required).
For toll booths/lanes, use the lanes marked with the orange “t”. Be careful with “Réservé t” lanes, as they may have restrictions (e.g., height). For more information, visit dedicated guide.
Spain: How does it work, and which lanes should you use?
In Spain, the European System operates on all Spanish highways and is used on lanes within the VIA-T network, which can be identified by the “T” logo on a blue background (dedicated or mixed lanes). For more information, see dedicated guide.
Portugal: How Does It Work (Via Verde and Free Flow)?
In Portugal, you can use the European Device on all toll highways as well as on the 25 de Abril and Vasco da Gama bridges (Lisbon).
The Via Verde lanes are marked with a “V” on a green background, and there are also sections with free-flow electronic tolling (no toll booths).
In Portugal, it’s important to have only one license plate correctly registered with the service to avoid problems or fines. For more information, visit dedicated guide.
